All I did was make a comment....

....and a thread blows out of proportion. Over at Big Bad Baby Names, someone started a thread asking whether they should have a plus woman thread where they can discuss their issues. I replied on the thread that perhaps there should be one about petites as well. Posters there got upset at me. I then started a spin-off thread asking about petites. People are now even angrier. This is exactly why petite women have to discuss their issues more often. If we don't, people will not take us and our issues seriously, and things will go out of proportion. The petite issue is already misunderstood and if we don't talk/bind together, nothing will be solved. Seriously, do you guys really like it when they think you're 15 years old?

Small sizes and sales

Alterations Needed has an interesting post on small sizes and sales - usually the very smallest can never find anything more than 30% off. This is true, at least in my neck of the woods. I could never understand what people are talking about when they say that they see tons of sizes 00 to 2 on sale racks. This certainly isn't the case in Toronto (or in New York, for that matter). The most sizes I see generally range between 4 and 10.

Is this the case with your area? Or can you find really small sizes fairly easily, even on sale?

Ann Taylor no longer carrying 00P in stores

Stories about Ann Taylor not carrying size 16 in stores have been all over the Internet. But did you know that they're not selling 00P either? For the exact same reason - lack of sales. The note was posted on their Facebook page today. Not sure if this is the same case with LOFT. I was never able to find 00P at the Ann Taylor store on Madision and 60th in New York anyway (though 00P was easier to find at LOFT).

Jezebel mentions petite sizes (and plus too)

Finally, Jezebel has mentioned petite sizes. They have had several pieces on body image and fashion for non-standard sizes, but until today, it was pretty much ALL ABOUT BEING PLUS. I realize that many petite women are also plus, but there has been no talk about women under 5'4" who have issues finding clothes to wear. Every time we talk about the problem, we're told that we're hijacking a thread or are complaining about nothing. I hope today's post will change that.

Poll: Most people don't understand the real need of petites

Last month's question was: Do you think people who encourage alterations over petite sizes just don't understand the real need?

77.4% said: People who say this are usually not petite or don't care about good fit! It's about proportion, people!

19.4% said: Sometimes - there ARE regular sized clothes which work well on shorter women

Luckily, 0% said: Don't alterations already work? I didn't think people were that out of it (though I'm sure many are!!!)

3.2% chose "other"

Being "petite" - People *STILL* don't get it....

In a recent Facebook status update, I wrote that 100% of my jeans are in petite sizes. A few people responded something along the lines of "but you're so tiny!" - many of these people were petite themselves, but were close to petite-plus than a "standard" petite. These are people who don't know that they are, despite being a size 16 or larger, petite as well. This is why this blog (and others like it) exist. We need to get the word out that "petite" doesn't mean short and tiny (as in less than size 4), but short, period. There are also those who think that anyone under size 4 is petite - even if they're 5'8" (I think the only place where 5'8" is considered petite is perhaps the Netherlands). Why is it so difficult for people to get that? Why can't they understand that anyone under 5'4" is petite? I think What Not To Wear is the ONLY place where I've heard anyone mention petite-plus. Sad, no?
